The Role

We have an opportunity for someone to join our highly-regarded internal audit team on a part-time basis to help us deliver a varied and challenging programme of work.

In joining the team, you will be responsible for the delivery of assignments using a risk-based audit approach across the full range of council services. You will work closely with managers to establish potential risks and their corresponding control mechanisms; evaluate your findings and report the outcomes to the client. We also carry out audit and grant certification work for schools and external clients, including Multi-Academy Trusts, so no two days are ever the same.

You will work with experienced colleagues who will support you with your personal development and you will receive on the job training, with the opportunity to obtain further formal qualifications under the Apprentice Levy scheme.

With responsibility for your own portfolio, under supervision, you will be based in our new offices at One Time Square, Warrington, but will also work flexibly across various office locations and at home.  The audit service is currently delivered as part of a joint working arrangement with Salford City Council and there may be the opportunity for you to carry out work at Salford to assist your personal and professional development.

We operate flexi time and will be happy to consider working patterns that support your personal circumstances, subject to the requirements of the job.

We are looking for someone who:

As an auditor you will be either an AAT member (NVQ level 4), be a part-qualified accountant or hold an equivalent relevant qualification. Internal audit experience is essential, ideally in the public sector, and you will have experience of delivering work to professional and quality standards within budgeted deadlines.

You will be eager to learn, determined and adaptable and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills – both oral and written. With the ability to absorb information quickly, you will also be able to identify and analyse problems in a logical and effective way. Above all, you will share our passion to support our partners and clients to ensure they have effective risk management, governance and control mechanisms in place.
