Walton Lea Crematorium - Coronavirus update
Crematorium and grounds
Walton Lea Crematorium’s grounds are open to visitors, following an amendment to the government’s COVID-19 regulations.
Government legislation has been adjusted and visiting a burial ground or garden of remembrance, to pay respects to a member of the person’s household, a family member or friend are now seen as acceptable reasons to leave one’s home.
If you are attending a funeral
Prior to a funeral, we ask mourners to stay in their cars or wait outside the chapel entrance. Please keep a suitable distance from each other in line with the government’s social distancing advice. We will also be keeping the waiting room closed.
There are 18 seats available in the chapel. We also advise that you don’t shake hands with other people and adhere to the new seating guidance, which recommends a two metre gap between each seat. Following the government guidance, there will be standing room for eight mourners in the entrance.
We would also advise you not to carry in coffins. We have removed service books, but you can take in service sheets with you. You can safely dispose of service sheets and used tissues in the floral court after each service.
Our public reception is now closed for general enquiries please call us on 01925 267731 or email bereavement services.
Paperwork can be posted to: Bereavement Services, Walton Lea Crematorium, Chester Road, Higher Walton, Warrington, Cheshire, WA4 6TB and payments can also be made over the phone. If you want to make a Memorial application, you can do this online.
Funeral Director reception
The funeral director reception will remain open but we will only allow one funeral director in at a time. You can drop off paperwork at this reception or post it through the letterbox, which we will check regularly.
Collection of ashes
We will only allow one person to collect ashes to ensure the government’s guidance on social distancing is followed.
Interments/strewing cremated remains
Interments/strewing will be suspended for the time being. We will honour any interments for those that have already been booked but ask that only two people attend. Families can rebook at a later date after the government has relaxed rules around gatherings and the national risk level has reduced.
General coronavirus advice
This is clearly a difficult time for many families and we are determined to work with you to ensure the process is as simple and supported as possible. We do ask, however, that if any mourners have any coronavirus related symptoms, including a high temperature and a new, persistent cough, to stay at home and self-isolate in line with NHS guidance.
